BAE Systems Australia's Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) Division is delivering several key programs teamed with Boeing under the AEW&C System.
In 2005, Boeing and BAE Systems Australia signed a World Wide Teaming Agreement, cementing BAE Systems' role as Boeing's Partner of Choice for Airborne Early Warning and Ground Support Systems on all global AEW&C opportunities.
AEW&C Wedgetail Program
BAE Systems Australia is the principal subcontractor to Boeing for the Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF's) AEW&C project Wedgetail. BAE Systems is responsible for the development, supply and integration of the following elements of Wedgetail:
- Electronic Surveillance Measures (ESM) system
- Electronic Warfare Self Protection (EWSP) system
- Operational Mission Simulator (OMS)
- Mission Support System (MSS)
- AEW&C Support Facility (ASF)
AEW&C Wedgetail will supply the Australian Defence Force with the capability to provide surveillance, air defence, fleet support and force co-ordination in defence of Australian sovereignty and national interests.
AEW&C Peace Eagle
The Peace Eagle project scope requires BAE Systems to modify the 737 AEW&C product line GSS Software and associated documentation to remove Wedgetail unique functionality for the Turkish Air Force.
The scope includes Rebadging Computer Software Configuration Items (CSCI's) and associated documentation of which some will have functionality removed and others the functionality modified. Rebadging entails the replacement of Wedgetail terminology and removal of classified data in all deliverable artifacts, whether functionality has changed or not.
CSCI's and documentation are to be delivered to Boeing incrementally (per build) for subsequent use by HAVELSAN (Turkey). In addition, there is a requirement to provide Link Network Simulators (LNS), long-term engineering secondments to Seattle and short-term secondments to Ankara now expanded to include long-term.
The scope was increased to include the provision of four ESM Cabinets similar to Wedgetail requirements. Post delivery of the artifacts a familiarisation package is then presented to HAVELSAN engineers on-site in Adelaide as part of the ongoing support.
