John M. Lydiard III
John M. Lydiard III is chief of staff for the Electronics & Integrated Solutions (E&IS) operating group of BAE Systems. He is responsible for the group’s overall business continuity, including security, information technology, and business integration.
E&IS, with headquarters in Nashua, New Hampshire, is a major defense electronics business with 17,000 employees in 16 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, the United Kingdom, and Israel.
Prior to serving as chief of staff, Lydiard served in a number of increasingly responsible positions since joining the company in 1997 as vice president and general manager of the Avionics Division for Sanders, a Lockheed Martin Company. In 1998, he became vice president and general manager for Countermeasures. He continued in that position when Sanders was purchased by BAE Systems in 2000, and was subsequently appointed Mission Electronics president in 2003.
Following graduation from the United States Naval Academy in 1968, Lydiard served nearly 10 years as a naval aviator. He logged more than 3,000 hours in tactical aircraft, including a combat tour flying A-6s aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Ranger. Beginning in 1978 at Lockheed Martin Aeronutronic Company in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, he held a succession of key management positions associated with the Pave Tack Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR), AIM-9R Sidewinder missile, and NITE Hawk Targeting FLIR.
He received a master's degree in Aeronautical Systems in 1970 from the University of West Florida, and completed UCLA's Graduate School for Management Executives in 1992.
John and his wife, Teri, reside in Bedford, New Hampshire. They have two sons.
The E&IS group designs, develops, and manufactures a wide range of electronic systems and subsystems for military and commercial applications. E&IS offers products and integration services, including electronic warfare and self-protection systems; surveillance and intelligence systems; platform systems; sensor and precision targeting systems; communication, navigation, identification, and reconnaissance systems; large-scale enterprise solutions and information management systems in support of the defense and intelligence communities; mission-specific software and geospatial exploitation products; advanced information technology; and rapid C4ISR prototyping, among others.
