The Electronics & Integrated Solutions Rochester UK Site were delighted to receive the British Safety Council International Award for safety for the 6th year running and the RoSPA Gold Medal Award for Occupational Health and Safety for the 5th year running. Both of these awards exist to recognise the world-class Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) practices across the Rochester site.
The Rochester site is the only BAE Systems site in the UK to have won both of these prestigious awards this year, and is also unique to the Company in being recognised for consecutive years. Whilst such awards are great recognition for the SHE Team, the crucial role that every individual on site plays in ensuring the sites safety can not be underestimated.
Over the past 5 years the SHE Team have successfully established site wide involvement and integrated SHE practices into the business. The British Safety Council is one of the world’s leading training and advisory bodies and following gruelling tests by a strict independent adjudication panel the Rochester site have been awarded the prestigious International Safety Award. Additionally, the SHE team has received a gold award from RoSPA for the general safety practices in place at the Rochester site.
The RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety awards exist to reinforce the message that good health and safety is good business and demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area. Prime Minister Tony Blair added his support: “I send my congratulations to all of those organisations being presented with an award by the British Safety Council. These awards recognise the success that these organisations and their employees have achieved in their pursuit of excellence in the management of health, safety and environmental matters.
The Government would like to place on record its appreciation of the support given by the Council in raising awareness of the benefits that effective health, safety and environmental management brings to business, employees and the environment”. This has seen the annual accident rate due to trips, slips and falls drop by two thirds.
