BAE Systems today delivered to Boeing the first fixed leading edges for its 777-300ER aircraft in Seattle, United States of America. The 777 contract was awarded in November 1998 and is expected to run for approximately ten years.
Peter Dougherty, Project Director with the BAE Systems Aerostructures business commented on the first delivery: "This delivery, on schedule, to our customer is a major milestone in a programme where we have been responsible for engineering design and reflects the tremendous amount of commitment shown by those involved.""
He added: "We will be delivering the first product on our contract for wing components for the Boeing 767 aircraft in August. This contract, signed in August 2000, will further develop our design and build capability and move us one step further up the value chain. The contract will involve design for manufacture and assembly, including design liaison throughout the production phase. Total project management and supply chain management activity will be carried out at the Prestwick facility and this work, along with our 777 fixed leading edge work, puts us firmly on the path to becoming the Centre of Excellence for civil aircraft fixed leading edge assembly."
