BAE Systems Regional Aircraft recently sold a Jetstream 31 (Serial Number 750) to Highland Airways Ltd of Inverness, Scotland for use in its air charter operation. The 19-seater was delivered in February 2002 and joins two other Jetstream 31s that are based in Inverness and Glasgow providing scheduled passenger services and BAE Systems' Corporate Air Travel Department with three times weekly service between facilities in Glasgow and Bristol (Filton).
"The demand for the Jetstream in a corporate role continues in North America and Europe as the versatility and the economics of the aircraft attract additional buyers," said Michael Canzian, SVP Asset Management - USA. "This business from Highland Airways is another indication of the Jetstream's strength in corporate air shuttle flights," he added.
The operation specialises in the requirements of its Scottish base area, including freight contracts, the oil industry and air charter flights, offering daily flights to the Northern and Western Isles of Scotland. During the summer season, Highland has a significant presence in Aberdeen to serve the area's oil industry. The airline offers air service to regular users from all aspects of the supply chain from principals, logistics providers to freight forwarders""
"A cornerstone of our operation's Island Hopper Service was the launch of Stornoway-Benbecula service on 1 September 2001, flown by the comfortable Jetstream 31, configured with 18 seats," said Alan Mossman, Managing Director of Highland Airways. "An essential service, representatives from businesses, central and local government and tourists are flown in comfort in the Jetstream 31," he added.
