BAE SYSTEMS Aerostructures Business Delivers 100th Set Of Fixed Leading Edge Wing Components For The Boeing 777 Airplane

26 Feb 2003

The Aerostructures business of BAE Systems today delivered to The Boeing Company the 100th set of fixed leading edge wing components for the Boeing 777 aeroplane. The contract was awarded in November 1998 and runs until 2009.

Peter Dougherty, Project Director for the Boeing programme within the Aerostructures business commented on the 100th delivery, "This delivery to our customer has been achieved on schedule and is a major milestone in the programme. It reflects the tremendous amount of dedication and commitment shown by those involved. This work, along with our Boeing 767 work, secures another stepping stone in achieving our strategy of becoming a Centre of Excellence for civil aircraft fixed leading and trailing edge assembly."

"We congratulate BAE Systems on this 100th shipset delivery", said Ian Thomas, acting Boeing UK country executive. " To date, Boeing has delivered 425 Boeing 777 airplanes to more than 30 customers around the world."

"This milestone event underscores Boeing's commitment to the United Kingdom and to Scotland in particular, said Thomas. Every year Boeing buys more than 1.6 billion of equipment and services from Britain's aerospace industry, including a significant amount from companies based in Scotland such as BAE Systems Aerostructures, Prestwick. This level of investment makes Boeing the biggest commercial customer of the UK aerospace industry and it supports some 30,000 jobs right across Britain."
