Atlantic Airways Expands With A Fourth BAe 146

26 Apr 2005

BAE Systems Regional Aircraft has leased a BAe 146-200 (E2115) to Atlantic Airways, the airline of the Faroe Islands. The aircraft was delivered in late April.

Atlantic Airways currently operates three BAe 146-200s on scheduled international flights linking the Faroe Islands with Copenhagen, Billund, Rekjavik, Aberdeen and Stavanger. Seasonal flights are also carried out to Oslo and London. Atlantic Airways also operates charter flights and wet leases.

The need for the fourth aircraft - the first to be leased from BAE Systems - is that the airline has increased frequencies considerably to Copenhagen, Billund and London and widened its involvement in charter operations in support of the oil industry.

Founded in 1987, Atlantic Airways operations started with an initial BAe 146-200 in March 1988. The aircraft is particularly well suited to the difficult approach and short runway at Vagar Airport. Over the years the BAe 146 fleet has grown as the airline has expanded operations and on the back of the BAe 146 the airline has been consistently profitable over the last ten years.

Magni Arge, President of Atlantic Airways said, "The BAe 146 has done a good job for us and it is popular with our customers. Over the years the aircraft has been a reliable and dependable workhorse and has become a key lifeline for the people of the Faroe Islands with the outside world."
