BAE Systems, the premier trans-Atlantic aerospace and defence company, is a major participant at Asian Aerospace 2006, where the company will be showcasing two “firsts” for the region.
The event will see the first appearance of the new-generation Hawk advanced jet trainer in Asia. The variant on display is the same as that currently in service with the Royal Australian Air Force and similar to aircraft recently selected by the air forces of South Africa, Bahrain and the United Kingdom.
Underlining BAE Systems new strength in the area of land systems, Asian Aerospace will also see the first visit to the region by the company’s AGS 120 Armoured Gun System. The system is among the most easily deployable of its kind anywhere in the world.
Since Asian Aerospace 2004, BAE Systems has gone through a period of significant change with acquisitions which have included Alvis of the United Kingdom and United Defence Industries (UDI) in the United States, among others. The company has built a significant footprint in both Europe and North America through sustained growth, giving its customers unrivalled breadth of experience and the capability to deal with any situation.
Steve Meighan, Regional Managing Director, BAE Systems Asia-Pacific, said, “The new generation Hawk can already do what its competitors can only aspire to and with this latest advancement in avionics systems still has considerable growth capability. The Hawk will remain the benchmark advanced jet trainer for many years to come.”
Commenting on the AGS 120, Meighan continued, “The AGS 120 is an advanced and deployable 120 mm auto loading gun on a light tank chassis. It is designed for low velocity air drops from C-130 Hercules aircraft or similar and can be configured in a variety of modular passive armour protection levels.”
Visitors to the BAE Systems stand will be able to see the breadth and depth of capabilities the company delivers to air, land and naval forces, as well advanced electronics, information technology solutions and customer support services. Among the range of products and capabilities showcased at Asian Aerospace:
- JETEYE ™, - a laser based anti-missile protection system for commercial airliners being developed for the US Department of Homeland Security and export markets.
- MEMS IMU-GPS,– a new global positioning system designed using the company’s solid state Gyros enabling guidance of air launched or gun launched munitions.
- Spyder -, a fully deployable command and control system for homeland security applications in maritime, perimeter and border security environments and key asset protection.
