Frimley, United Kingdom. - BAE Systems supported the national ‘Wear it pink’ campaign last month and raised a total of £650 for the Breast Cancer Campaign. Employees at BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) dressed in pink for the day and donated £2 for the privilege, raising over £300. The amount raised has been matched by the company.
Ken Thompson, BAE Systems Charity Challenge site lead in Frimley said: “The efforts of the employees in Frimley are an example of BAE Systems’ commitment to charities across the world. Since January 2005 the Company has raised over £8 million in charitable donations across its international businesses.”
Frimley is Insyte’s Head Office with 500 employees based in a new state of the art building in Lyon Way. In addition to the core business functions it manages the mission system for the Royal Navy’s new Aircraft Carrier, Networked Enabled Capabilities (NEC) for the battlefield as well as the latest Naval Warfare Training Systems. The company and its employees provide support and sponsorship to local and national charities
In addition to financial support BAE Systems also encourages employees to donate their time to helping charities. In the last 18 months, Company employees have donated over 10,500 days to charitable activities.
Breast Cancer Campaign is the only charity that specialises in funding independent breast cancer research throughout the UK. They currently support 71 research projects, worth over £9.2 million in 47 locations across the UK. Over the past 11 years Campaign has awarded 141 grants with a total value of over £14.5 million to universities, medical schools/teaching hospitals and research institutes across the UK.
