BAE SYSTEMS TO CLOSE LOS ANGELES FACILITY; MOVE WORK TO ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA

14 Nov 2006

LOS ANGELES — BAE Systems officials today advised members of the company’s Los Angeles-based workforce that it will close its local product design and development facility by mid-2007. The move is intended to make better use of underutilized facilities elsewhere in the company.

Work performed at the 150,000-square-foot site near Los Angeles International Airport will be moved to company facilities in Ontario, Calif., and Johnson City, N.Y. As a result of the closure, most of the 260 Los Angeles positions will be eliminated with approximately 50 employees offered the opportunity to relocate.

“While decisions of this type are always difficult, this move will allow us to be more efficient and responsive to our customers’ needs and are necessary to remain competitive in a dynamic marketplace,” said Michael Heffron, president of BAE Systems’ Platform Solutions unit, of which the Los Angeles site is a part.

The Los Angeles site designs and develops military aircraft avionics and control systems.

Affected employees will be eligible for a comprehensive package of severance benefits and outplacement assistance.
