Portsmouth, United Kingdom. - BAE Systems supported a team of employees, family and friends in the Butser Challenge that took place on Sunday 24 September 2006 at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, near Petersfield.
The event included a 3 mile picturesque stroll through the forest and a 4.5 mile run, incorporating 3 major hills. The team of 12 completed the event in 46.5 minutes and raised approximately £500 for the Rocky Appeal, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. The Company matched the amount raised bringing the total to £1000.
The race saw a total of 331 runners finish, with the combined BAE Systems Team from Portsmouth and Waterlooville coming in second place.
John Marsh, the BAE Systems event organiser, said: “The whole event had a party atmosphere and we believe that, according to early indications, we have beaten last year’s total raised. It was good to have the support of BAE Systems and next year we hope to do even better and beat the amount raised again.”
The object of the Rocky Appeal is for the relief of sickness by the development, improvement and maintenance of clinical services provided by Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. The latest appeal aims to raise £2 million for a unique cancer laboratory - the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.
