The BAE Systems Submarines Give as You Earn Scheme paid out £16,971 pounds to 29 local charities last night. Presentations were made today to:
£500 – Alzheimer’s Society
Supporting the Furness office/drop in centre based on Crellin Street. The drop in centre is used on an informal basis by people who require support. The centre is also used for Carer Information courses and evening support groups.
£200 – Barrow Asbestos Related Disease Support Group
To assist in the running costs of the group.
£500 - Barrow & District Dial a Ride
Subsidising a transport service for the elderly, disabled and infirm who reside within Barrow and the surrounding district.
£1,000 - Barrow & District Disability Association
To assist in the care of disabled people in this area.
£876 - Barrow Citizens Advice Bureau
To purchase new computer towers for the main Bureau in Barrow
£200 - British Heart Foundation
To fund local projects such as British Heart Foundation specialist cardiac nurses and first responder groups across Cumbria.
£200 - Casualties Union Furness Branch
For the purchase of training aids which will allow casualties union to support organisations in first aid training, exercises and other outside duties.
£470 - Community Action Furness
To support the MUNCH project (Motivate Understanding in Nurturing Children’s Health) Project by
purchasing a new cooker for the kitchen.
£200 – Duddon House
Making Space is a registered charity which exists to help families affected by severe mental illness, e.g. Schizophrenia.
£500 - Duddon Inshore Rescue
To continue our support of the Duddon Inshore Rescue who continue to come to the aid of all of those in peril on land and sea.
£200 - Emmanuel Christian Centre
To aid with organisations vision of seeing the local community improved and impacted by their presence and facilities.
£200 - Epilepsy Action
The branch set up in 1997 offers support, information and friendship to people who suffer with epilepsy their families, carers and friends.
£500 - Furness Falcons Wheelchair Basket Ball Club
As Cumbria’s only wheelchair basketball team the money will be used to renew 10 of the made to measure wheelchairs.
£200 – Furness Retired Boilermakers
Transport for the more disabled members to attend outings and social events.
£4000 - Hospital Equipment for Furness
Supporting the Morecambe Bay Hospital NHS Trust list of requirements for the next financial year.
£325 – Kidsafe
Kidsafe is a local children’s charity based in Haverthwaite which offers specialised child protection programmes to primary age children in Cumbria.
£300 – Kepplewray project
To replace much of the day to day equipment used at the centre.
£700 - Mill Lane Parent Carers Association
To support and help people with learning difficulties, particularly those attending Mill Lane Centre with the aim of improving their quality of life.
£500 - Mind-in-Furness
Providing emotional and practical support for people with a range of mental health problems ranging from anxiety to schizophrenia.
£1,000 – Multiple Sclerosis
To upgrade facilities in Schneider Hall.
£750 – North West Air Ambulance
The air ambulance can get to the scene of an accident and transfer critically ill patients to specialist medical units throughout the region.
£400 – Parkinsons Disease Society
To provide complimentary therapy once a month for around 20 people.
£500 – Samaritans
For the essential upkeep of the facility in Hartington Street.
£200 - STEPS
To enable children, young people, families, carers and professionals to manage the impact of loss through bereavement or separation.
£400 - The Abbeyfield, Millennium House
To fund a dishwasher for the centre.
£750 – The Great North Air Ambulance
To operate the ‘Pride of Cumbria’ aircraft from a base in Penrith.
£200 – Salvation Army
The support of the organisation.
£200 - Tuesday Handicap Club
Supporting the upkeep of the mini-buses which transports members to their weekly meetings.
£200 - Ulverston & District Disabled Club
This money goes towards subsiding members with their taxi fares to the club.
£1,000 – Ulverston Inshore Rescue
Following the terrible tragedy in 2002 the Ulverston Inshore Rescue was formed. Much needed vital equipment is required - Radio equipment for the vehicle, winch, ropes, flares, reflector for the boat, binoculars and fuel for the vessel itself.
