Second Type 45 long range radar delivered to Glasgow
Glasgow, United Kingdom. – The Long Range Radar (LRR) system for the second of the Royal Navy’s new Type 45 destroyers has been successfully delivered to BAE Systems’ shipyard at Scotstoun in Glasgow three months ahead of schedule, enabling early installation onto HMS Dauntless. It follows the successful delivery and installation of the Sampson medium range radar earlier this month.
This LRR system is the eighth radar to be produced for the Type 45/Horizon programme and is the third of seven systems for the Type 45 programme. It has recently undergone demonstrations at shore-based integration sites in Toulon in France and at the Maritime Integrated Support Centre (MISC) in Portsmouth, UK which have reinforced the understanding of the maturity of the product.
Sean Finlay, BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions Type 45 project head of combat system added: “Trials results with the LRR have been most encouraging to date and we are looking forward to using the LRR during our sea trials later in the year.”
Paul Laity, naval programme director for BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) said: “This early delivery of a key milestone shows BAE Systems’ capability in meeting the challenges set out in the Defence Industrial Strategy.”
The LRR has been supplied and developed by BAE Systems and Thales for UKAMS (an agent for MBDA) as part of the prime contract for PAAMS.
