Prestwick, Scotland. BAE Systems Regional Aircraft announces the appointment of Saywell International as its sole distributor of spares for the Jetstream 31/32 regional turboprop aircraft. The agreement comes into force from February 4, 2008.
BAE Systems itself will continue to provide full technical and continued airworthiness support and delivery of technical publications to the Jetstream 31/32 fleet.
A multi-million pound stock inventory is being transferred from Regional Aircraft’s Spares Logistics Centre at Weybridge, Surrey, to the Saywell International facility at Worthing in South-east England. Saywell also has a spares distribution centre in Hollywood, Florida, USA, as well as offices in Vancouver and Singapore.
A large pool of rotable components is available and distribution agreements are already in place with manufacturers of consumable parts.
In recent years the 18/19 seat Jetstream 31/32 market has changed considerably. The large fleets that were delivered to operators, principally in North America, have been dispersed in response to market demand. Some 200 aircraft remain in active service.
The vast majority of Jetstream 31/32 operators are now found in new markets for the type. There is a large and growing presence in Latin America and the Caribbean, while operators are also located in Australasia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. There are still operators flying the aircraft in Europe and North America.
Today there are nearly 90 separate operators of the Jetstream 31/32, and as a result most operators are much smaller in size and resource and geographically remote from Regional Aircraft’s Weybridge spares logistics centre.
This change in the market dynamics for the aircraft means that a new approach is needed to provide spares support for Jetstream 31/32 operators and Regional Aircraft is confident that this agreement with Saywell International will result in a better, more focussed service to the operators of the aircraft.
