BAE Systems will once again be the sole sponsor of the Wise (Women Into Science and Engineering) 2006 event for Essex.
Wise 2006 will be the 16th in a series of annual events held in Essex, aimed at educating young women about engineering and science and the exciting career opportunities open to them in these fields. WISE also serves to dispel some of the pre-conceptions that young women may have in regard to a career in technology.
The 2006 event takes place once again at the Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) Rivermead Campus in Chelmsford, Essex, between 13 to 16 February. 40 year 9 girls from the Chelmsford postal region will be invited to attend, along with the daughters of BAE Systems employees. In previous years Insyte received over 70 applicants from 13 Chelmsford area schools. The event is solely sponsored by Insyte, facilitated by Insyte employees and hosted by staff at ARU.
Alan Farnworth, Chief Technical Officer at BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) has high hopes for WISE 2006: “As well as raising awareness of engineering as a career option, the girls visit Insyte where they can meet skilled engineers within a working environment. Whilst at the ARU campus, they get the opportunity to see the academic application of science and engineering. Both of these experiences provide valuable insight and help illustrate to the girls the diversity that there is in engineering”.
