MATADOR® system components
The MATADOR® system protects multi-engine business jets and other large aircraft by generating false target signals to counter infrared missile threats. The system’s key technology is the long-life, cesium vapor arc lamp, which is developed and manufactured exclusively by BAE Systems.
The MATADOR system is modular, can be tailored to meet any customer requirements and providesi flexibility for multi-platform applications, including infrared missile jamming capability to defeat multiple threats simultaneously. The system’s components include an electromagnetic interference filter, controller unit, operator control unit, power supply unit, and transmitter group.
The MATADOR system is low risk, technically proven, widely deployed, and can be installed on new or in-service aircraft. Once turned on prior to flight, the electronically-modulated system operates continuously, without having to be monitored by an operator.
For 20 years the MATADOR system has been the preferred self-protection mechanism for VIP customers, and has been successfully installed and certified on diverse platforms in nine countries. Its reliability in providing long-term protection has been proven through thousands of flight hours. Although the MATADOR was originally designed for and certified on large civil aircraft, it is also available for business jets.
The system is produced at the BAE Systems’ facility in Ontario, California, and is fully supported by the Federal Aviation Administration-certified repair station on site. Training is provided for both flight crews and maintenance personnel.
