Systems Integration Facility - 3D Dome

A significant investment to upgrade a high-tech Land Systems facility is helping engineers and vehicle crews work together to develop and deliver urgent modifications to British Army armoured vehicles.

The Leicester Systems Integration Facility will be used to develop enhanced capabilities for the inservice armoured fleet of main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armoured personnel carriers.

In addition, the facility can also be used to design and demonstrate vehicle concepts and systems integration capabilities for future requirements such as the Future Rapid Effect System (FRES) family of medium-weight armoured vehicles.

All four facility laboratories have been extended and refurbished. The 3-D visualisation laboratory incorporates three-dimensional life-size virtual models and allows rapid concept evaluation.

The combat systems integration laboratory, which has reconfigurable crew stations, allows evaluation of vehicle concepts and rapid prototyping of crew behaviour and performance during operational scenarios.

The electronic systems integration laboratory aids evaluation of electronic architecture and integration of subsystems and software. Finally, the vehicle systems integration laboratory offers a phased approach to integration of software and hardware into the complete vehicle.
