120-mm Non-Line-of-Sight Mortar (NLOS Mortar)
An integral part of the Future Combat System Manned Ground Vehicle family, the Non-Line-of-Sight Mortar (NLOS Mortar) is an 18.5-ton, 120-mm mortar vehicle that will provide the most accurate and responsive medium-range fire support critical to the infantry soldier in the close fight.
The Non-Line-of-Sight Mortar (NLOS Mortar) will provide close fire support of tactical maneuver that includes destructive and special purpose fires. The NLOS Mortar is being designed by BAE Systems as a semi-automated, single-tube, 120-mm smoothbore turreted mortar with a four-person crew in a quad-seating arrangement.
The breech-loaded NLOS Mortar will have a range of eight kilometers, maximum rate of fire of 16 rounds per minute, and a sustained rate of fire of eight rounds per minute. With its 360-degree traversing turret and ability to carry 60 rounds in onboard ammunition magazines, the NLOS Mortar will work as part of a NLOS Mortar battery, firing precision-guided mortar munitions and delivering lethal fires to destroy high payoff and most dangerous targets and provide area suppression in support of maneuver companies and platoons.
The NLOS Mortar is being designed to maximize commonality with the NLOS Cannon chassis and mission equipment to minimize maintenance and logistics.
